Supervisors Announce Future of Farmwell Road Project
ASHBURN, VA -- Loudoun County Supervisor Ron Meyer (R-Broad Run) and Board Vice-Chair Ralph Buona (R-Ashburn) announced their intent to ask the Board of Supervisors to amend the Farmwell Road Widening Project.
The two supervisors have instructed County staff to develop a plan to improve the flow of traffic on Farmwell Road by:
  • Constructing major fixes to the intersections at Ashburn Road, Ashburn Village Blvd., and Smith Switch Road.
  • Building pedestrian and bike paths on Farmwell Road
  • And, looking at future ways to accelerate funding for projects to alleviate congestion in this corridor.
Supervisor Meyer said, "I want to thank Vice-Chair Ralph Buona for his leadership and willingness to relook at this project. My constituents spoke clearly: they want us to prioritize building new roads like Shellhorn Road and Prentice Dr. rather than widening Farmwell Road."
"These changes show the Board is listening to residents and addressing congestion without changing long-established neighborhoods," Meyer said.
Vice-Chair Buona said "Our constituents are stuck in traffic on Waxpool and Farmwell. This plan will focus on the locations that are causing severe congestion.  Relieving this congestion is the number one issue I hear from my constituents. It is imperative that we address these issues on Waxpool and Farmwell."
"In my six years on the Board, our County is building and expanding roads faster than ever before. This project shows we can be responsive while still addressing the core concerns of our community," Buona said.
County staff will be working to bring this plan to the Board as soon as possible, with a date to be released soon.
Thank you,
Supervisor Ron Meyer
